Tokina, known for their wonderful wide-angle zoom lenses that have been continuously improving through the years, has now released an affordable new lens: the Tokina Opera 16-28mm f/2.8 FF. The lens offers solid full-frame and wide-angle coverage, to begin with.
The lens comes with the same specs as the AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX but brings to the table a bit of a redesign and some internal tech changes – it offers three aspherical elements and a 9 blade aperture in addition to the built-in lens hood that blocks any rays of light that might cause flares.
It has a silent drive DC Motor Autofocus System, a minimum focusing distance of 0.28m and a macro ratio of 1:5:26. The 9 blade aperture is coupled with a constant f2.8 one, which allows for smooth bokeh effects for blurred backgrounds.
The lens is available in Nikon F or Canon EF mounts and comes with a price tag of $699. It’s expected to ship in March 2019.
