1.5 billion users in 180 countries make WhatsApp the most popular messaging app in the world. Developers haven’t been slacking and are continuously releasing updates to keep up with the times and make the app more user friendly.
Now, the Facebook-owned app is about to get some new features for its Android and iOS apps. WABetaInfo (a website that tracks everything that happens with WhatsApp) reports two new features will soon be available to beta users, and more are still to come.
Still in development, one new tool — Search by date — will reportedly allow users to quickly search for WhatsApp messages by picking a date. This is basically another filter to search by in the already existing in-chat search, making it easier to track old messages. As seen in the image, a new calendar icon will appear in the in-chat search feature, when it will become available.
Developers are also testing some new improvements for Storage Usage, to make managing files more accessible. The whole storage usage section will be redesigned allowing users to search for forwarded files and also sort their files by newest, oldest, and size. Another tool in the works will let users segregate large files. All these and more are still in the testing phase and may receive improvements.
WhatsApp hasn’t announced the new updates yet, but surely we will soon see them on mainstream devices. The messaging app holds the lion’s share in the market and wants to keep things that way by always finding ways of staying ahead.
