In efforts to stop misinformation spreading about the COVID-19, WhatsApp is teaming up with 80 global fact-checking organizations to connect its users with a fact-checking bot.
The chatbot recently created by the Poynter Institute for Media Studies’ International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) will tell users whether the information send is false. Users can reach the bot by saving +1 (727) 2912606 as a contact or reach the page: http://poy.nu/ifcnbot. From there, they can search for keywords or go through the last list of myths that have been broked.
“Hundreds of millions of users rely on WhatsApp to stay in touch with their friends and families every day,” said Baybars Orsek, IFCN director. “Since bad actors use every single platform to disseminate falsehoods, to mislead others during such troubling times, fact checkers’ work is more important than ever.”
Moreover, as an effort to combat the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus, the company has also limited message forwarding and came up with a coronavirus information hub for support.
