You might remember that, a couple of days ago, Xiaomi announced the Transparent edition of its Mi 9 phone, inspired by Alita: Battle Angel. The phone was going to be available only in China and its glass back design would show some of the phone’s internal components (not the real ones though).
Nothing changed, but it’s worth saying that there’s another reason this model trumps the regular version. The transparent Mi 9 comes with a special camera with an f/1.47 aperture and a lens with 7 optical elements (7P). Usually, we can only see a 5P or 6P system on high-end cameras so this is quite the leap.
This means that the camera will allow more light in, which should improve its performance during the night.
For the time being we don’t know which one of the three cameras will receive the upgrade, but hopefully it will turn out to be the main 48MP resolution camera.
The phone will cost CNY 3,999, which roughly translates into $595 but we can’t guarantee we’ll see it outside China.
