Xiaomi will be launching the Xiaomi Mi 9 smartphone in China on February 20th. We’ll be able to see it in person at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, on February 24th but until then, the company doesn’t want to leave anything to the imagination.

That’s why the company took to its MIUI forum to announce that the smartphone’s main camera sensor will be a huge 48MP f/1.75 with a Sony IMX586 sensor (the same one we can find on the Honor View 20).

Xiaomi also confirmed that it will be using a sapphire glass cover for the Mi 9 cameras, which should protect them from damage for the entire lifetime of the phone.

The MIUI forum post also states that the Mi9 will have “nano-level laser engraving holographic technology with dual layer nano-coating [that] will create [a] unique color“, which will make the phone appear to have different shades, depending on the type of light it’s exposed to.

You can see the coating shift and change below:

In addition to that, Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s global spokesperson, took to Twitter to reveal that the Mi 9 will have the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset under the hood.

As much as we love teasers, we really hope the company will rein in their excitement and leave us wanting more next week.
