Xiaomi Mi 9 finally made its debut. After teasing the device on social media for the past couple of weeks, Xiaomi’s flagship phone was officially unveiled during an event in China.

It’s the first smartphone from the Shenzhen manufacturer to feature a triple rear camera system, which says just how much Xiaomi appreciates the power of a great phone camera module.

We’ve already talked about most of the device’s specs, thanks to Xiaomi’s marketing strategy which left almost nothing to the imagination but here’s a rundown of the company’s smartphone, as it was presented today in China.

To make one thing clear: the Xiaomi Mi 9 is the flagship of their 2019 line. At its core lies a Snapdragon 855 chip, the latest processor from Qualcomm, making Mi 9 one of the first smartphones to feature it. The chip is coupled with 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of internal memory.

The front is dominated by the large 6.39-inch OLED display – produced by Samsung – protected by a Gorilla Glass 6. The display has Full-HD + resolution and comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The back glass panel went through a special nano-scale holographic laser process to offer a gradient effect. The colors available are: Black / Gray, Pink / Purple and the classic Blue.

As far as the cameras go, Mi 9 truly shines. The main camera is a Sony MPX586 48MP (f / 1.75) sensor which will shoot 12MP pixel-binned images.

The 12MP telephoto lens arrives with a 2x zoom and it comes coupled with a 16MP super wide camera that allows the users to capture a wider field of view. In addition, the cameras come with artificial intelligence assistance and the sensors are protected by a sapphire crystal panel.

Mi 9 has a 3,300 mAh battery and will run MIUI 10, based on the Android 9 Pie.

Another surprise is the Charge Turbo mode which allows 20W wireless charging on the Xiaomi Charge Turbo pad or the motorized car mount. According to the company, this is the fastest wireless charging option currently available on the market – it can fill up the Mi 9’s battery from 0 to 100 in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Even so, the device will come with a 27W wired charging brick which will be able to charge its battery in a bit over an hour.

As far as pricing goes, the Mi 9 will have a price tag of 2,999 Yuan (around $450) for the 6GB/128GB variant and a 3,999 Yuan (roughly $600) for the 12GB/256GB transparent model.

Xiaomi also offers the option of a mid-range model called the Mi 9 SE which has a smaller 5.97-inches screen and an outdated Snapdragon 712 chip under the hood.

It will cost much less though, just 1,999 Yuan, which would translate into $300 (for a 6GB/64GB model).

Mi 9 is available in China for the time being but Xiaomi plans to releaseit in Europe as well, though there’s no word about a U.S. launch. We will find out more about availability during the press conference Xiaomi will hold at the Mobile World Congress.
