Xiaomi Receives Patent for Dual Punch Hole Camera Smartphone

We now know that 2019 will be the year of the punch-hole camera smartphones, with Xiaomi being among the first to apply for a patent.

A listing mentioning Xiaomi was discovered by LetsGoDigital on the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The listing states that Xiaomi received a dual punch-hole design patent.

According to the patent, the cameras will be placed in the left and right corners of the device and the different smartphone models will also have differently-styled camera housings, even if they will be placed, more or less, in the same areas.

The listing shows how the second hole will host either another camera, serve as a notification light or a proximity sensor.

It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi decides to follow through with this design or not.
