At Unity Vision VR/AR Summit, a two-day event focused on VR innovations, Steam boss Gabe Newell made dozens of game developers happy, in an Oprah-like moment.
The co-founder of Valve appeared in a pre-recorded video message to update guests on three important issues:
- Unity game tools will have native support for Steam VR at no extra charge (and HTC Vive, the PC VR platform).
- Valve will be releasing a rendering plug-in for Unity that will improve both visual fidelity as well as performance.
- “You get a Vive, You get a Vive, You get a Vive!” was Newell’s Oprah moment. He promised one VR device kit for every developer at the conference, encouraging them to create more games like Surgeon Simulator and Job Simulator for HTC Vive. See the moment above!
In other news, Oculus Rift revealed that customers will get four months of free, unfettered access to Unity Pro.
