Elon Musk took to Instagram to announce that the travel tunnel beneath LA is nearly done. Not only that, but it is also eagerly awaiting to offer passengers free rides within a few months.
Musk has mentioned they have yet to get final regulatory approvals, but judging by the positive tone of voice used in the post, all is going in the right direction.
First Boring Company tunnel under LA almost done! Pending final regulatory approvals, we will be offering free rides to the public in a few months. Super huge thanks to everyone that helped with this project. Strong support from public, elected officials & regulators is critical to success. As mentioned in prior posts, once fully operational (demo system rides will be free), the system will always give priority to pods for pedestrians & cyclists for less than the cost of a bus ticket.
He noted that the system, once completed, “will always give priority to pods for pedestrians & cyclists for less than the cost of a bus ticket.”
If all goes according to plan, Musk would like to continue building an entire network of tunnels beneath the city, as an alternative to the notoriously “soul-destroying traffic” – as he put it – of Los Angeles.
An urban knight in shining armor, our Elon Musk.
Even so, the Boring Company’s vision is riddled with obstacles and at times, seems endlessly complicated, as Musk plans to build an entre subterranean maze of hydraulic platforms and speed electromagnetic sleds, brimming with bus-like pods.
How are they going to reach the end of the maze? We’ll have to wait and see.
Don’t forget that last year, in pure Elon Musk style, he was quoted as saying: “We have no idea what we’re doing—I want to be clear about that.”
He’ll be fine, we’re sure. He’s Elon Musk.
