Google Pixel, Huawei P10, maybe OnePlus 3T? Although excellent phones, none of them was the one crowned as the best selling Android handset in 2017. Instead, the smartphone that conquered China – selling more handsets than any other – took home the title: Oppo R9s #mobilemagic
Back in February, we were reporting that Oppo was the biggest smartphone vendor in China in 2016. The numbers were crushing – Oppo had sold 78.4 million units, leaving Huawei a couple of millions behind. Now, the company is checking another box, as it becomes the best selling Android smartphone in the world! In the first quarter of 2017, Oppo R9s sold no less than 8.9 million units! This achievement is even more impressive when you realize that Oppo is present in just 21 markets.
Unsurprisingly, Samsung comes in second place. As it turns out, the J3 and J5 models were the most shipped Samsung handsets between January and March 2017.
So, what was Oppo’s secret for success? Besides the comfortable price, we’ll say a plethora of great specs. Oppo R9s is a beautiful 5.5-inch device, with a great camera and battery life, plus enough power to support juggling multiple apps, playing games and editing photos and videos. If you didn’t keep tabs on it after launch (fall 2016), then here’s a quick reminder; Oppo R9s comes with a 3,010mAh battery with proprietary flash-charging system VOOC and an impressive rear/front camera.
To take panoramas and vibrant landscape photos, you can use its 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture. You’ll get clear shots, perfectly stitched with FotoNation’s panorama technology or flawless HDR photos edited to your heart’s desire thanks to FotoNation’s FotoMagic. The selfie shooter is also a big incentive to get this smartphone. Oppo has equipped the R9s with a 16MP with f/2.0 aperture and FotoNation’s Beautification tech. Such a mix of technologies make it possible for you to take bright selfies where you control the smoothness of your skin, the shape of your eyes or touch up your make-up. No need to leave dinner to actually powder your nose before taking a picture.
