Days ahead of the much anticipated Google I/O conference, Google made a big announcement. This week’s blog post revealed that Google Assistant is now compatible with 5,000 smart home devices.
If that’s doesn’t blow your mind, you should know that in January, Google Assistant was supported by a mere 1,500 devices. Who knows how many other devices it will reach in the next few months?!
Amazon and Samsung should already pay attention to Google’s progress. As popular as Alexa is, Google Assistant is a worthy opponent. As for Bixby, the assistant created by Samsung will have trouble catching up.
The latest Google Assistant-compatible devices are the Nest Hello doorbell, Vivint Smart Home, ADT, First Alert, August and Schlage, Xiaomi lights and more. Google is trying to bring its Assistant to every device imaginable: “cameras, dishwashers, doorbells, dryers, lights, plugs, thermostats, security systems, switches, vacuums, washers, fans, locks, sensors, heaters, AC units, air purifiers, refrigerators, ovens.”
Stay tuned for more good news and projects from Google next week, during the I/O Conference (May 8 -11)!
