After concluding the investigation regarding the true nature of Note 7′ problems, everyone was expecting to see Samsung take advantage of every opportunity to make up for loses. This meant a flagship reveal as soon as possible, this February at Mobile World Congress. Instead, the company has announced that won’t happen and Galaxy S8 will debut later on #mobilemagic
Samsung’s President of Mobile, Koh Dong-jin, told Reuters that, despite the latest rumors, S8 will not launch at MWC, as expected. We can’t blame the company for taking the safe road and postponing the launch until everything is perfect, not after the Note 7 fiasco.
The smartphone titan lost a great deal in the aftermath of the phablet explosions; operating profit dropped to $4.6 billion in the third quarter, a 30% drop from the previous one. Smartphone sales plunged, leaving Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge the main profit makers.
But with iPhone 7 and Google Pixel as rivals (not to mention the devices bound to be released at MWC next month), how much can an old flagship help the manufacturer in the long run? That’s the question.
