When the original Microsoft Surface Go showed up, it offered a great budget tablet / laptop to introduce people to the Microsoft ecosystem.
Now, the company is following up with the Surface Go 2, keeping the price tag in check.
Starting at $400, the Surface Go 2 is a decidedly affordable option but, to turn the tablet into a work laptop, you’ll need to drop another $130 on the keyboard case.
Coming up at $530, hardware-wise it won’t be able to compare with similarly-priced laptops but that’s to be expected for a 2-in-1 device.
At first glance, the Surface Go 2 seems almost identical to its predecessor, minus one thing: it has a 10.5 inch Full HD display, 0.5 inches larger than the one on the Surface Go.
Microsoft says that the battery is bigger too.
No matter which processor you go with, the default Amber Lake 4425Y from 2019 or the 8th-gen Core m3 one, you will still get a 10-hour battery life.
That’s paired with 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of storage.
In terms of connectivity, you have eSIM support for the LTE version, MicroSD, an USB-C port with charging capabilities and a Surface Connect slot.
For Zoom, Skype, Teams and other essential tools nowadays, Microsoft also included the better studio Microsoft it used last year in the Surface Pro.
The new Microsoft Surface Go 2 will be available on May 12, with the Surface Book 3, new Surface Headphones and the much-awaited Surface Earbuds in tow.
