Microsoft Is So Confident In AI, They’re Adding the First New Key On Keyboards Since 1994

Microsoft has long been the champion of AI and now, for its Copilot AI assistant, the company is going all out to promote it.

Microsoft says they want to have 2024 as “the year of the AI PC”, so much so that they’re adding a dedicated key on the keyboard for it. Indeed, it’s the first time in 30 years that Microsoft is changing the Windows PC keyboard layout – since the Windows key, actually.

You’ll soon find the Microsoft Copilot key right next to the right Alt on your keyboard, just to the left of the arrow keys.

“Nearly 30 years ago, we introduced the Windows key to the PC keyboard that enabled people all over the world to interact with Windows. We see this as another transformative moment in our journey with Windows where Copilot will be the entry point into the world of AI on the PC,” wrote Yusuf Mehdi of Microsoft on the Windows Experience blog.

So, which keyboards will have the Copilot key?

Microsoft didn’t say yet but they do plan on talking about their partners next week at Consumer Electronics Show.
