The handset global market of the second half of 2020 will be highly influenced by the 5G phone segment, technology adopted by the biggest players in the industry. Therefore, we shall see if Apple’s efforts in releasing the first 5G-enabled iPhones will pay off, as the Chinese market is its biggest competitor.
Manufacturers like Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have been focusing on developing 5G models to burn up their domestic growth through 5G end-market devices. Of course, competitors have been caught in the pricing competition by introducing more entry-level 5G phones on their domestic market, while China’s telecom operators are doing their best efforts to offer 5G networks and related services through preferential package deals.
Considering the competition is tough, the price will be a big determining factor for the success of the iPhone 12, as a new DigiTimes report points out.
Scheduled to arrive in September 2020, iPhone 12 will play a key role in the decisison of going for iPhones and non-iPhone models on the second market in second-half 2020.
The latest report from DigiTimes has the iPhone 12 arriving in October, with production set to start in July. For previous iPhones, Apple started production in June for the usual September launch, so this makes sense. The first to enter the manufacturing line will be the 6.1-inch iPhone 12, ahead of the other models. This means the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro will be produced first because Apple is using different touch systems than the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 12 promises top specs and it will apparently be slightly cheaper ($649) than the iPhone 11 ($699) when it came out.
