Today, Huawei officially launched the high-end smartphone flagship, the Mate 40 Series – the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro +, and the special edition Porche Design|Mate 40 RS.
The new Mate 40 Series is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9000 chipset, which the company says is the most powerful processor out there. The main difference between the series variants is in the camera modules.
The new flagship line-up has one particularly creepy feature, called Eyes On Display (EOD), meaning the device will light up when you look at it.
Huawei upgraded its Smart Gesture Control introducing left-right movements and a pressing movement to touch-free control your phone.
The Huawei Mate 40 base variant is as standard as it gets, with a 6.5 ”OLED screen, Full HD + resolution, and 90 Hz refresh rate, complemented by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The ‘Space Ring’ camera module has a 50MP main snapper, an ultra-wide 16 MP2.2 sensor. This model is the only one that has an 8 MP 3X zoom, f / 2.4 with optical stabilization. The device runs on a 4,200 mAh battery.
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 + are the ones that really stand out from this series. Both devices are built around 6.76” screens with a resolution of 2,772 x 1334 pixels and refresh rates of 90 Hz with a touch digitizer at 240 Hz. The Mate Pro comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, while the Pro + has 12 GB of RAM. The camera system on both models looks promising, the Mate 40 Pro + being the one with more interesting features:
The Mate 40 RS is Huawei’s luxury phone from the series, which is actually a Pro + model framed in an octagon.
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus will retail for €1,399 ($1,655), while the Mate 40 Pro will cost €1,199 (£1099.99 / $1,418) and will be available starting November 13th in the UK, and the Mate 40 will cost €899 ($1,063). The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 40 RS will cost €2,295 ($2,715).
