Yes, you read that right! Qualcomm, the famous chipset maker, is working on a Nintendo Switch knockoff type of console.
The news comes from an AndroidPolice report and the outlet claims they saw the Qualcomm console for themselves!
The best part?
This console will feature 5G connectivity and might retail for just $300.
“The device, which we were able to view non-final images of but cannot share, is immediately familiar to anyone who owns a Switch. Detachable “joycon” style controllers are on the left and right sides of the core console, which resembles a thicker, bulkier smartphone.
There’s a good reason for that: the company believes that the added thermal headroom a thicker design affords will make its processor run faster and significantly more efficiently than a modern ultra-thin smartphone.
Qualcomm is also using that space to pack in a large 6000mAh battery that will be equipped with its Quick Charge technology,” says AndroidPolice.
According to the outlet, the first Qualcomm console will run Android 12 and come with full support for Google’s Play services.
The company is also working to secure a deal with Epic in order to have the Epic Games Store at launch, so that Fortnite players can enjoy their favorite game on the Qualcomm console.
But that’s not all, because Qualcomm apparently also wants to build its own content portal.
Right now, the chipset giant refused to comment on this story, but we bet we’ll be hearing a lot more in the coming days. What do you think, would a Snapdragon console make sense?
