Samsung 360 Round Picks Up From Where Nokia Ozo Left Off

As soon as Nokia Ozo was out of the picture, Samsung 360 Round came to take its place. Indeed, Samsung’s latest 360-degree camera, targeted towards professionals this time, can pick up from where OZO left off. And that, guys, is nothing if not great news #actionmagic

Until now, Samsung had just one 360-camera in its portfolio, the $170 Gear one. The gadget wasn’t bad at all but it didn’t compare to Nokia OZO or other professional cameras that can satisfy prosumers. So, the Korean manufacturer took a page out of Facebook’s book and created a 17-camera array called 360 Round.

The UFO-shaped system was equipped with eight stereo pairs positioned horizontally and one lens vertically, with 1/2.8-inch, 2MP image sensor and f1.8. Along with 6 microphones, they’re capable of 4,096 x 2,048 30fps livestreaming in any kind of weather thanks to an IP65 rating. You can count on 50GB of internal memory.

All the stitching is done internally, thankfully, and the footage doesn’t need immediate export, thanks to the chance of adding up to 256GB of storage with an SD card.

Although the system looks pretty sturdy, the company is proud with its ability to ship without a cooling fan attached, therefore minimizing the size and weight of the camera.

According to No Film School, the camera will cost just $10,500, which is almost a bargain if you compare it with the former OZO. We’ll come back with more pricing details, once Samsung makes them available.
