Luxury automobile company BMW has already shown two electric Mini concepts but they’re only now revealing the long-awaited classic Mini electric car concept.
“The classic Mini Electric is the result of an imaginary journey through time, where the story of classic model is extended by a consecutive chapter. The original from the second half of the 20th century becomes a sympathetic ambassador for environmental awareness and a form of sustainable mobility whose future has just begun,” stated BMW about the gorgeous concept that’s on display at the New York International Auto Show until April 8th.
The classic Mini Electric will be based not on the classic model, but the more recently iconic Mini 3 Door model. This car is expected to launch sometime during 2019 which is coincidentally the classic Mini Cooper’s 60th anniversary.
“We always joke and say if Issigonis was to invent the Mini today, it would definitely be an electric car. It is the answer to current challenges, as the original Mini was in 1959,” said Sebastian Mackensen, Senior Vice President, MINI. Truly, the Mini Electric looks to fully embrace the movement for electric vehicles.
