As expected, Xiaomi held the Redmi S2 launch in China today, unveiling an affordable device with an AI-powered selfie camera.
While it’s not a champion in terms of RAM or chipsets, it really pack a lot under the hood for its price range.
Powered by the Snapdragon 625 chipset, the Redmi S2 is available in two versions: one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage for $160 and another with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for $200, both of them sporting a microSD card slot.
What’s really going to make them popular is the selfie camera with 16MP and LED flash, though. The front camera features AI-based beautification tools like AI Portrait Mode or AI Smart Beauty.
Users will appreciate the dual rear camera, as well. The module contains 12MP + 5MP lenses and are placed above the fingerprint reader. There’s an alternative to the fingerprint reader, by the way: Face Unlock.
The screen has 5.99 inches with an 18:9 display ratio and 720×1440 resolution, powered by a 3,080 mAh battery.
Right now, the only place you can buy the Xiaomi Redmi S2 is on Suning.com, where it’s available in rose gold, champagne gold or platinum silver color schemes. Soon, it might find its way to UK stores.
