Peru is taking the next step toward the future, deciding to issue 1.6 million biometric passports for its citizens over the next three years.
A report by Andina confirms that the National Superintendent of Migrations and Foreign Affairs Ministry will help peruvians enter the Eurozone visa-free for up to 3 months. The process will start in summer, with an estimate of 80,000 biometric passports being released this year at Peruvian consulates in Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Amsterdam. Here, the corresponding comittees have already been organized. What’s left is to set up about 111 embassies across the world with the necessary equipment to process information from this type of passport.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has settled on July 11th as the day when the first biometric passport will be released, although it didn’t elaborate on a more pressing issue, namely the exact date when Peruvians will enter the Schengen area without a visa.
