We have brought you the rundown of the ‘Gather Round’ event a few hours ago, as it happened and now you can get ready for all the juicy details we could get our grubby hands on concerning two of Apple’s most anticipated products: the iPhone XS and the XS Max.
The rumors have turned out to be true: one of the phones, the iPhone XS Max sports the largest display Apple has offered so far, measuring 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm and weighing a solid 208 grams.
The difference between the iPhone XS and the XS Max, aside from the size and weight (the XS comes in at 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm and weighs 177 grams), also stands in the screen itself.
The iPhone XS has a 5.8 “Super Retina HD (2436 x 1125 pixels and 458 ppi), while the XS Max comes in at 6.5” (2688 x 1242 pixels and 458 ppi).
Both have increased color range and are water resistant – thanks to the stainless steel surgical case, they can withstand up 2 meters of depth for 30 minutes and come with an IP68 certification.
Thanks to the Secure Enclave update, Face ID has become both safer and faster and the Bionic A12 chip allows an increase in performance up to 15%. According to Apple, thanks to this chip, the users will be able to get more from the camera as well.
Speaking of the camera, both phones feature two cameras on the back, both of them of 12 megapixels, while the front one is a 7 megapixel one, which is not much of a difference from the iPhone X. What does make a difference is the fact you can adjust the depth of a portrait mode photo (the bokeh effect, as some of you know it), after you take the photo.
In addition, with the 7nm architecture built in them, the phones have their consumption reduced by 50%. If that was not enough, the 8-core Neural Engine chip allows 5000 billion operations per second.
Both models support Dual SIM and, in China, the phones will use both physical SIM cards.
The storage memories are still 64GB and 256GB but the surprise is a new 512GB version you can also buy, for quite the price, of course.
Unfortunately, neither of the phones will include the complimentary Apple dongle and its absence might prove to annoy the customers, considering the prices the new iPhones are listed for.
The phones do benefit from wireless charging thanks to what Apple called “the most durable glass ever”, but the company was not very specific about the details and there was no mention of the rumored 10W charge speed we’ve heard circulating about.
As far as design goes, the colors remain silver and grey but there is also a gold variant added into the mix, so anyone who was expecting fancier colors can instead try out the iPhone XR, which comes in no less than 6 different colors.
The prices for these two models are as high as we expected them to be:
For the iPhone XS:
- 64 GB version: $999
- 256 GB version: $1,149
- 512 GB version: $1,349
For the iPhone XS Max:
- 64 GB version: $1,099
- 256 GB version: $1,249
- 512 GB version: $1,449
If you can’t wait to get your hands on these phones, pre-sales will start in a couple of days, on September 14th and they will become widely available in the stores on September 21st.
