Amazon wants Alexa to be a constant presence in our lives, so they’ve taken it out of our house and placed it in our cars, with the Amazon Echo Auto. This device can access all of Alexa’s 50,000 skills wherever you travel, from any type of car, whether the automaker included it or not.
The Echo uses a Bluetooth connection to your phone and has eight microphones through which it can take requests such as playing music, giving you directions or get an Audible book read out for you.
The device has a road noise-reduction algorithm that eliminates the driving sounds. After that noise is taken out of the way, the Echo Auto sends requests to your phone directly, connecting to the cloud simultaneously. You can power it up through the car’s outlet or your usual USB port. To get it to play music through the car’s stereo system, you can connect it via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.
The Echo Auto will cost $49.99 via Amazon but the company will offer it at a discounted invite price of $24.99 for a short while. Shipping is set to begin sometime later this year.
