We all know that camera quality on a smartphone weighs a lot in our decision to purchase one but the way the camera presents itself is also a factor so it’s no surprise that smartphone companies have been trying to one-up each other on the feature for a long time now.
Asus had decided that a popup camera might just be the answer we need – the company recently filed a patent that shows a smartphone with a popup camera on the top.
The patent displays no less than three different sizes the camera might come in: while one is small enough to fit the camera we might expect from a smartphone, another one takes up almost the entire width of the top area.
The popup idea has its supporters and critics: some argue that the cameras might be prone to breaking because the design threatens the structural integrity while others state that the popup is a great idea that will free more screen space.
As far as we’re concerned, we can say this design is actually quite interesting and, while we know patents don’t always reflect future projects, we’d be curious to see this sort of camera mechanism in action.
