Drones are still looked upon with suspicion but that hasn’t deterred security firm Bishop Fox from creating a hacking drone #actionmagic

Called Danger Drone, this $500 Raspberry Pi-based quadcopter’s purpose isn’t to steal precious information but to help companies protect themselves better. Equipped with the usual hacking software security companies deal with, the drone is supposed to “test out the defenses that they’re rolling out”.

Fran Brown, one of the managing partners, says that “over the air” attacks have increased in numbers, giving people access to strangers’ devices when they are placed nearby. The one factor that prevents drone from doing a lot of damage is proximity.

“You need to be close to the wireless signal to be able to read it. [Danger Drone] removes that barrier of physical access.”, explains Brown.  Danger Drone can tap directly into smart devices, from watches, to fitness bands, phones and laptops.

It sounds scary, but fortunately the guys behind this project are on the good side. Bishop Fox wants to show companies what can be done and will be done if they don’t take the right measures in time at the Black Hat security conference.
