Scooter-sharing company Bird has been working hard on expanding its business lately, in what is slowly becoming a more and more crowded market.

Back in May, the company released a new scooter which it also plans to sell to the customers for $1,299. Bird also begun to offer a monthly rental option for the riders in the cities that do not yet allow Bird to operate the scooter program.

But most of Bird’s rivals like Uber or Lyft offer more types of vehicles people can choose from, such as cars and bikes so it was just a matter of time before Bird eventually chose to go down that path as well.

The company has now finally introduced its latest, upcoming vehicle.

The vehicle has been dubbed the ‘Cruiser’ and it can be ridden just like a bike, the only difference being that its electric motor will help making pedaling less tiresome. The riders can also put their feet up on the pegs and let the motor do its thing instead.

The vehicle has disc brakes, a padded seat and even an LCD screen that will inform the riders about speed and battery.

The Cruiser’s motor comes in the shape of a 52V battery that can go for 50 miles on just one charge.

The Bird Cruiser is actually a part of the company’s Bird Platform program that allows entrepreneurs to build up their own business by using the Bird assets.

Bird’s introduction of shared e-scooters spurred a global phenomenon and mode shift away from cars,” Travis VanderZander, Bird founder and CEO said in a statement “To further accelerate progress on our mission to make cities more livable, we are providing additional environmentally friendly micro-mobility alternatives—including Bird Cruiser. Starting this summer, people can move about their city and explore new neighborhoods together, without a car. Designed and engineered in California, Bird Cruiser is an inclusive electric-powered option that is approachable, easy-to-ride and comfortable on rough roads.”

For now, Bird kept the riding costs and manufacturer information private and we don’t really know anything about the Cruiser’s top speed either, though it most likely will not go over 30 mph.

The only thing we know is that the company will launch the Cruiser to ‘select markets’ sometime this summer.
