Amazon is giving the chance for developers to change Alexa’s voice intonations to express emotions like excitement or disappointment. The feature is available for users in the US.
These emotional responses are mostly applicable in the gaming and sports categories. For example, if your favorite sports team loses, Alexa can empathetically tell you the score, or if you get a trivia answer right, it can happily tell you’re correct.
Here are a few examples of what Alexa sounds expressing emotions:
This isn’t the first time Amazon changes the way Alexa sounds, in January this year it has released a newscaster-like voice for US customers.
In today’s report, the company also announced that developers can now use a “topic-focused” voice designed to talk about music. The old plain robot-like is made to sound like a radio Dj’s or a newscaster. This feature is available on “Australian Alexa” too.
