Amazon recently announced the company is launching a new variant of the Echo speaker in India, due to the customers’ primary request – portability.
The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition is the new model in the lineup integrating a built-in battery and it was just unveiled yesterday. Customers will enjoy up to 10 hours of music playing, or 11 hours if the device is in standby mode, due to its 4,800 mAh enclosed battery.
India is one of the most important markets for Amazon, according to Rohit Prasad, VP and head scientist of Alexa AI at Amazon, the “adoption of Alexa in India has been phenomenal.” The company has invested up to $5 billion in India, which is one of its biggest markets.
“Portability has been one of the most requested features in India,” said Miriam Daniel, VP of Alexa Devices. “You want to be able to carry Alexa with you from room to room within your homes. So we have designed something just for you,” he added.
The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition integrates pretty much the same “hardware architecture” as the Echo Input.
The battery-powered Echo model, designed exclusively for India can be purchased for 5,999 Indian rupees ($84) and will shipping will begin on December 18.
