Apple has just announced the release of a coffee table book filled with pictures of their devices. It’s called simply “Designed by Apple in California“. This hardcover, bound in linen edition, ranges from $199 to $299 #objectmagic
As simple as the idea is, “effortless and coherent” as all the other objects Apple says it strives to design, you have to admit it comes at a curious moment. After Apple’s AirPods were met with skepticism and ridiculized online and the only important iPhone change in design was the elimination of the headphone jack, no one would have expected a self-congratulatory design book. A $300 book, nonetheless.
On the other hand, the book is dedicated to Steve Jobs, so we can imagine the focus being on the Golden Era of Apple and his early design decisions.
If you think about it, part of the pictures you’re asked to pay for can already be found online, anytime… but if you have Apple fans among your friends or that study industrial design, this could work as a Christmas gift.
“Designed by Apple in California” comes in two sizes, a 10.20″ x 12.75″ version at $199 and a 13″ x 16.25″ edition ay $299.
