ASUS Starts Off IFA 2019 With Two World Firsts: StudioBook One, PROB9 Laptops

ASUS surprises kept on coming today, September 4, in sunny Berlin. After revealing a brand new smartwatch and finally announcing the price of the “world’s greatest game phone” in the Co-CEO ASUS’ words, the company took one big breath and went into laptop launches. This fall, the team showed off two world firsts: the world’s lightest 14-inch business laptop and the the world’s most powerful graphics on a laptop.

“In search of the incredible”, ASUS said, they came up with StudioBook One, a machine from the ProArt range, with graphics powered by the first Nvidia RTX6000 gpu integrated in such a device. This translates into an impressive 24GB GPU memory, real time ray tracing, ready for any VR and AI tasks you throw its way.

A 9th Gen Intel Core is the foundation of the laptop that caters to professionals with a creative streak.

Opening it up, we could see up close a 4K Pantone-validated display with the already-expected 120Hz refresh rate – at least when it comes to ASUS. Needless to say, the display really captures the vividness of every color, although it keeps the bezels offering just a 84% screen-to-body ratio.

This beautiful beast knows how to cool down even when you’re working like a maniac. It may look “elegant, slim, quiet, relatively lightweight” as Bob Pette, vice president of Professional Visualization at Nvidia, put it but it uses a patented titanium vapor chamber where normally copper would be used.

This material doesn’t work alone in keeping your laptop cool as a cucumber. It benefits from a smart, hinge-like chassis design that may look curious at a first look but it’s nothing if not practical. See, when the lid is opened, the hinge tilts the chassis by 4.57° to maximize the inflow of cool air into the chassis. Heat-generating components, including the CPU, GPU, and thermal systems, are therefore placed behind the display so no more thigh burns from overworking your laptop.

You’ll see this one on the market later this year, at a price yet undisclosed.

For those of you who want more portability and business tools than anything else, PROB9 is the laptop you are looking for. At 14″, ASUS says it’s the lightest around. How light? Just 880 grams! It’s definitely a breeze to hold, that I can tell you!

I loved the display, a 4-sided NanoEdge design with a 94% screen-to-body ratio (the thinner the bezel, the happier I am!) and 14.9mm thickness. We were concerned about power until ASUS said they are equipping it with 10th Gen Intel® Core™ processors and up to two 1TB PCIe® 3.0 x4 SSDs.

These were definitely the laptop highlights for us, but stay tuned because ASUS went above and beyond this year, making us forget about the jet leg with a new watch, a ROG section where we played Asphalt 9 and more.
