A story trailer for Battlefield 2042 dropped recently, revealing an unexpected new Specialist and provided more lore for the all-out warfare happening in 2042.
In the short film titled Exodus, Kimble “Irish” Graves from Battlefield 4 is seen trying to collect a briefcase but is intercepted by a familiar face. Once retrieving the package, he returns to Exodus, a ship filled with refugees, and learns that the contents of the package are coordinates for a secret US military device. Handing it over to the Russian operatives who paid for his service would lead to an all-out war with the US, with the No-Pats squarely in the middle. Despite his best efforts, the Russians get access to the material, leading Irish to call for all No-Pats to converge on the location and stop the next big war.
Although the game is set to be a completely multiplayer experience, story trailers like Exodus give more insight to how the world became mired in warfare and natural disaster.
According to VGC, these trailers may also be part of EA’s plan to highlight its unique characters called Specialists. As EA describes it, “The narrative [of Specialists] will continue to evolve over time as more Specialists join the conflict, each with their own story to tell, and pull players deeper in the world and lore of Battlefield 2042.” In-game, each specialist will come with unique Specialities and Traits, with Irish being the latest one announced.
Battlefield 2042 is turning out to be one of the franchise’s biggest and most expansive entry. Not only are there going to be games up to 128 players on compatible systems, but it will also have a game customization mode called “Battlefield Portal.” Battlefield Portal will even have options to make custom games using content, map, and gear from previous Battlefield games including 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 2042 is set to launch October 22nd, 2021.
