The Boring Company held a launch event last night for the L.A test tunnel that runs from SpaxeX to the O’Leary Station and during the event, Elon Musk tweeted photos of a Tesla Model X that came equipped with a rig which allowed it to be guided between the elevators at each end of the tunnel.
Of course, the rig can carry more than just Tesla cars and it will reportedly be available as an add-on for $200 or $300 and able to fit any autonomous, electric car. According to Musk, the rig can travel at speeds of over 150Mph. CNN reported instead that the trip was ‘bumpy at times‘ and that they traveled at mostly speeds of 35mph.
The tunnel reportedly cost around $10 million to build, excluding the prices of the tunneling machine and the costs for research and development and, in the future, Musk hopes to create an entire tunnel network that will run all across Los Angeles.
