Snapchat is over the “chat” part. The company’s future name will be Snap Inc. and one of the reasons is the CEO’s intention, Evan Siegal, to expand his business in the wearable realm. This fall, Snap Inc. will debut their first pair of video recording glasses, called Spectacles #objectmagic
Spectacles look just like a trendy pair of sunnies, but are much smarter. Snap Inc. is promoting them like another way of shooting 10 second videos to upload on the platform but this time, hands-free.
You’ll simply have to tap the button on the side to start recording. The resulting footage will be circular thanks to a 115-degree lens (wider than a smartphone one) and easily shareable. Spectacles will sync automatically with your phone through Wi-Fi.
Siegel said the glasses will come in one size, but will carry multiple colors – black, teal and coral. Snap Inc. is not making a bigger fuss about it because they are now testing the market, with a limited number of Spectacles to be released this fall. When they do launch though, a pair will cost $130, not too much considering they look pretty good and will let you capture videos on the go, no hands required.
