The selfie stick is not going anywhere.
So, why not take it with you on virtual reality vacations? Facebook thought as much, when it presented their version of a VR selfie stick last week #realitymagic
You might not have the finances to travel around the globe, but you can fool yourself that you’ve seen the most important cities with a virtual reality headset on. And, Facebook thinks, if you have the chance to meet your real buddy in this fantasy realm, why not take a selfie with him?!
They suggested a system that implies VR, 360-degree video and two Oculus headsets at F8 event last week, where the company demonstrated the technology. Two friends came on stage, put the Oculus headsets on and visited together London where they took a selfie… of their avatars and posted the image to Facebook. They even added accessories to their outfits; unfortunately, they’re hard to distinguish since the stick can’t take photos of their real faces.
Now, the VR selfie stick is more of a project than a product in itself, showing a different direction manufacturers can take. That applies of course, if people aren’t more excited by the prospect of selfies in actual, real cities…
