Elon Musk Deleted SpaceX And Tesla Facebook Pages

Update: Elon Musk did respond to the suggestion of deleting the companies’ Instagram accounts and responded in typical Musk fashion:

If there’s one man who lives for the unpredictable and loves to do the opposite of what’s expected of him, that’s Elon Musk. The fearless visionary proved once more he has no problem crossing the biggest names in the industry to make a point. As Tesla and SpaceX’s CEO, he just deleted his companies’ Facebook pages.

He wasn’t exactly supporting the #deletefacebook trend. At least, that’s not the official reason behind his recent actions. Instead, it appears as if he impulsively agreed to do so after a bold request by a Twitter follower:

Musk didn’t stop there – provoked by another follower, the businessman deleted Tesla’s page as well:

In the course of a couple of hours, SpaceX and Tesla lost an audience of 5 million Facebook followers! However, both Tesla and SpaceX have Instagram accounts and Facebook owns Instagram. Users have wondered if Musk should delete his companies’ Instagram accounts as well, asking him to complete the digital detox.

Thankfully, this hasn’t happened yet, so you can still see the companies’ updates there. Given Musk’s impulsive actions in deleting his companies’ Facebook accounts, we wouldn’t put it past him to delete the associated Instagram accounts as well. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens to both parties in the aftermath of this social media war.
