Google Maps Pushes Local Guides To Make Service Traveler Friendly

Gradually, Google Maps has become more than just a navigation tool, giving users the option to rate and review places they’ve visited, and many have. ”Local Guide” is a badge given to anyone with a Google account, who wants one and gives reviews on services advertised on Google Maps. There are about 120 million Local Guides at the moment.

Google Maps has a new feature within the app that allows you to follow local guides for a more personalized recommendation. You can find the feature in the “For You” section, where you already get recommendations for places of interest and have the ability to save suggestions in a “want to go” list for certain geographical areas.

“People in Bangkok, Delhi, London, Mexico City, New York, Osaka, San Francisco, São Paulo, and Tokyo will soon see top Local Guides featured in the For You tab of the Google Maps app,” Google’s Austin Wells wrote in a blog post about the new feature.

“When you follow one of these Local Guides, their recommendations will be surfaced to you in Google Maps, so you can get inspired with ideas of things to do and places to go.”

Google Maps is being regularly updated to become traveler-friendly, just last week the company announced it was making it easier for users to overcome language barriers, by adding a new translation feature.
