One of the most promising devices of CES 2018, Hip’Safe, is getting ready to show up at CES 2019 once more, just ahead of the official launch.
Described as a “wearable airbag,” Hip’Safe is designed to protect the elderly from breaking their hips in a fall.
Using motion analysis, the embedded tech promises to detect the likeliness of a fall in 200 milliseconds and, in 80 milliseconds, the Hip’Safe will inflate to protect the person.
While the 3D simulation makes the wearable airbag look a bit uncomfortable, the actual device resembles a fanny pack with a thicker belt.
Helife, its maker, also won an innovation award ahead of CES 2019 for the B’Safe, the airbag vest for cyclists.
If you have elderly family members and want to help them navigate life in a safer way, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on this project. The Hip’Safe retails for around 650 euros and will start shipping in early 2019.
We’ll try to test it at CES and bring back our impressions.
