Huawei Technologies says US carrier Verizon has used its patents without authorization and initializes the carrier a lawsuit against unauthorized use for 12 of its patents.
“Verizon’s products and services have benefited from patented technology that Huawei developed over many years of research and development,” Dr. Song Liuping, Huawei’s chief legal officer, stated in a release.
“Huawei is simply asking that Verizon respect Huawei’s investment in research and development by either paying for the use of our patents or refraining from using them in its products and services.”
According to a Reuters anonymous source, the two companies held six face-to-face meetings since February last year in order to reach an agreement on the matter, but couldn’t make a decision. The same source said the Chinese manufacturer decided to take action for the 12 patents, because of the clear evidence they held, but in total, Huawei accused Verizon of illegally using 200 of its patents.
