Instagram is bringing a new functionality, QR codes, which users will be able to scan from any supporting third-camera app. This way, people can quickly connect with business in order to check store hours, buy stuff, and easily follow accounts.
The new QR codes can be useful when accessing Instagram profiles, replacing the previous Nametag feature, which allowed you to follow people by simply scanning the emoji-filled QR code.
The update reached Japan last year and is pretty simple to use. To generate your QR code you just need to:
- Access the settings menu on your profile
- Tap QR code below the ‘Your Activity’ option
- Select Save or Share the image which, once selected, will take you to the emoji-clad Instagram QR code.
- Change the way your Instagram QR code looks by selecting Colour, Emoji, or Selfie option.
Of course, there are many other apps with similar QR code functionality like Spotify, Twitter, Snapchat or Facebook, so Instagram isn’t inventing the wheel.
As a matter of fact, businesses outside the social media circle adopted this new functionality too.
For example, many restaurants have implemented QR codes instead of their physical menus to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
