Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to help reduce the time spent on his social media platform while increasing the quality. With new Instagram updates, it looks like Zuckerberg is keeping that promise.
Instagram just announced Usage Insights, a feature which shows you how much time you spend on the platform. In addition to Instagram allowing you to download your data, Usage Insights is another great step taken by the platform to give users more control of their relationship with the application.
“We’re building tools that will help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram – any time should be positive and intentional. Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously,” said Kevin Systrom, the company’s CEO.

Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, took a similar pledge back in January and again at the F8 Conference after the Cambridge Analytica scandal and increasing public pressure. However, while tools for better privacy are now in place on Facebook, the platform doesn’t offer a time tracker like Instagram’s Usage Insights.
