If you are an Instagram user with a somewhat large following, you might have noticed your follower count drop throughout the day and you are right to wonder what exactly is going on.
It’s not just your regular Janes and Johns out there who are affected – celebrities took a blow as well, with some reportedly losing as many as 1.9 million followers, like it was the case with Kim Kardashian, who has one of the most followed accounts on Twitter.
A lot of the users initially assumed that the sudden drop came following a bot purge initiated by the platform, where inactive or spam accounts get deleted.
Unfortunately, Instagram itself made it clear that a widespread bot purge was not what caused the issue and stated that they are working on the problem.
At the moment there’s nothing much to do except kick back, relax and let it happen. Some users are reporting that they’re slowly gaining their followers back as of a couple of hours ago, so we’re assuming it will all return to normal soon enough.
