The smartphone market is at its lowest it’s been in the last 10 years. The current pandemic has directly affected sales for all sorts of devices, especially smartphones.

With this in mind, the launch of the iPhone 12 may have more of an impact than we think. 5G suppliers are waiting on Apple to announce the release date for the device, before starting their mass production, Digitimes (via AppleInsider) reports.

Among the suppliers listed are TSMC and ASE Technology, which say are ready for production but are waiting on Apple to announce its strategy for production and whether or not the upcoming iPhones will be delayed. If so, the installation of 5G modules may also be delayed by a month or more, depending on Apple’s plans.

During these times, a smartphone upgrade is probably the last thing on people’s minds, the coronavirus affecting everyone’s financial stability. Apple sales plummet following the indefinite closure of all Apple retails stores outside China.

Last week Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced a virtual meeting with the company’s staff, where he will answer questions about how Apple is dealing with the current crisis.
