Year after year, we’ve heard that same Apple rumor: either the notch would disappear or it would be significantly reduced in size. Neither happened but maybe not everything is lost, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo teased a punch-hole camera cutout for the iPhone Pro and revealed several updates for the upcoming foldable iPhone.
It appears that the notch is on its last legs. According to Kuo, at least the premium version of the iPhone, the iPhone Pro, will replace it with something Androids have implemented successfully for years now: the punch-hole camera cutout.
It appears that Apple stood its ground for long enough and is now ready to follow the obvious trend.
However, don’t expect this year’s iPhone Pro to be the one to break the ice. It seems we’ll see the Face ID notch scrapped next year.
2020 will also be the year when Apple will try out an under-display Touch ID and a periscope zoom camera. If not, there’s always a next time and the company could take advantage of 2023 to come with this suite of changes, alongside the first portless iPhone.
As for the foldable, this is also something Apple will probably deliver in 2023 with an estimated 7.5-8 inch screen.
Interested in what’s happening this year? Well, this fall, iPhone 13 will launch four phones, all of which will land in consumers’ homes with a new ultrawide camera and autofocus.
The iPhone 13 Pro versions are rumored to boast LiDAR scanners as well as – finally! – 120Hz refresh rate displays.
