If you’re into giant robots, have we got news for you!
According to Anime News Network, Japan plans to build a moving Gundam statue in 2020, just in time for the Tokyo Olympics. It will be displayed at the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama and will stay there for a year.
The project was announced during the livestream for Gundam’s 40th anniversary on Wednesday.
It will not be the first of its kind in Japan though – just last year, another life-size Gundam statue was unveiled in Tokyo: the Unicorn RX-0, which is capable of moving various panels around as it changes to ‘Destroyer’ mode and lights up.
The future statue will measure around 18 meters and will be supervised by a team of designers and technical supervisors.
While it will most likely not be able to walk about the pier in Yokohama, we can expect it to have a wider range of movement than its predecessor.
