Smartwatches are more prevalent than every before, but fashion smartwatches are not yet mainstream. In a daring move, high-end fashion company Kate Spade has released a smartwatch, paving a way for the fashion industry into the smartwatch market.
The Kate Spade Scallop made its debut at CES 2018 and is the brand’s very first touchscreen smartwatch that combines the Kate Spade style with Android Wear OS. It is priced at $325 and is catered toward women.
The watch itself is stylish and meant to be won with almost any outfit on any occasion. Typical of Kate Spade brand fashion, the watch is not necessarily minimalistic, but combines forms with function.
The circular face and body of the watch appears to be typical of other Android Wear watches. It has a 1.9-inch OLED display and light sensor. The straps are easy to detach and can be swapped for other designs and colors.
The software in question allows for easy customization of the watch face; different screen options show a New York taxi cab speeding away off the screen or the blink of an eye with big eyelashes when you receive a notification. It also keeps track of fitness related activities.
The watch also runs an app aptly named Choose Your Look, which asks questions about your outfit, color of your handbag and jewelry to then generate a color scheme that will, supposedly, fit your outfit of the day.
The Kate Spade Scallop is a unique and fashionable alternative to the smartwatches dominating the market.
