Amazon is the undisputed king of e-readers but its flagship Kindle Oasis now faces stiff competition from the Kobo Forma.

The newest Kobo is the most expensive E-ink reader from the company’s lineup, bearing a $279 price tag but bringing a much needed feature for readers looking to relax and unwind: it’s waterproof.

With a 8-inch display with a chunky, extended bezel for a better grip, and the IPX8 standard, which means you can submerge in up to 2 meters of water for an hour, the Kobo Forma is definitely the eReader you want to bring with you by the pool or at the seaside.

Kobo knows this, so it emphasized that the Kobo Forma can survive “more bends, twists, full handbags, and overloaded backpacks” than its competition.

And speaking of competition, who’s the one company that still dares to go toe to toe with the giant retailer Amazon? Walmart, of course. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Walmart announced a partnership with Kobo to feature the e-readers, e-books and audiobooks lineup in its stores. Could the Kindle finally have actual competition again?

That’s story wasn’t written yet but we know a lot of people waiting to read all the twists and turns.

The Kobo Forma features 8 GB of storage and is integrated with the Overdrive online library, so you can download books straight from the device, not an external app. The new e-reader goes up for pre-order on October 16 and Kobo says it also plans a 32 GB version for the near future.
