Lead With This App: OGYoutube – Background Play With No Pay

Using a Google app is usually like driving a supped up Cabrio or Coupe. Sure, it’s not an ultra-fast, high-performance, top-dollar experience, but you tend to get some power under you. Google apps are the same way!

They do fine, up until the point you want to get a particular function that you would otherwise expect from the app, but you can’t find it anywhere.

Take YouTube for example! This app is one of the most downloaded video-streaming applications on the market. Users have been asking for functions like offline play, downloads, or listening to the video with the screen off to save battery since… forever! Well, a few years ago, Google announced that you can do that. All you need to do is pay them a monthly subscription, and all those functions are yours to play with as you wish.

What if we told you that you can have access to all the functions that Youtube Premium offers for no cost whatsoever and, on top of that, you could get some nice perks out of it, like widget play for example? Plus, it’s safe! Provided you don’t give it access to your email or to other sensitive apps.

Meet OGYoutube and MicroG, two apps that, in tandem, can give you the best experience using the Youtube App, and have you transform your phone into a portable player. Scratch that, it is a swiss army knife replacement for Youtube and can do much more than you think.

Here is a quick list!

It allows video download from the app, direct MP3 download, offline play, pop-up play so you can use your phone and see the video, video playback in the background, or with your screen closed, and, right now, it has more than 23 million downloads on UpToDown. Good stats, we think. Except the app is only available for Android 4.4 and up, and there are some caveats to installing the app.

We mentioned that you can download videos and convert videos into MP3. That is correct, but in order to do that you need to be logged out  of the app. Google is finicky with the use of Gmail so it secures and locks the function if it detects that the app is not authorized.

Sure, it’s a hack app, but right now, there are no reports online that it has any malicious code. Some users have been experiencing problems when trying to save a playlist and unexpected crashes while logged in, but those are to be expected, given the fact that OgYoutube is totally free.

Right now, it is a pretty great alternative to the Youtube app, and you can save some battery while listening to your music, or even use Waze or Google Maps simultaneously, making the OgYoutube play in a small window of the video in the corner.

Once you get the hang of it and you figure out all that it offers, it might change your view of the Youtube Mobile World, and, let’s not forget, save you some cash, the app requiring no subscription. All you need to do is download the app, give permission to install the app from unknown sources, and then a prompt to install MicroG will pop up. Proceed to install that too, and from there, you are golden.

Congratulations, you can brag to all your friends about what your Youtube app does. With no monthly subscription none the less. Enjoy, and learn how to lead with another app super find next week!
