Thanks to amazing fantasy books and movies, we’ve come across diverse, mystical languages that we’d love to master one day and speak. For decades, we wanted to speak Arwen’s tongue from the LOTR series, but it was too complicated to get around it. Now, though, one app is ready to help us learn another fictional language: High Valyrian from Game of Thrones #mobilemagic
Duolingo, the popular language-learning app, has added High Valyrian to its list of courses. Thanks to David Peterson’s input, the creator of High Valyrian for the HBO series, the app can now offer an official course for those interested to speak like Daenerys, Melisandre or Varys.
Throughout the course, you’ll be guided to learn and use correctly up to 2,000 words. Besides “dracarys” (the word used to command dragons to spit fire) and the expression “valar morghulis” (all men must die) followed by “valar dohaeris” (all men must serve), you’ll find out how to say thank you, how to salute and ask diverse questions. In other words, if you get your friends to take the course, it will be like speaking in code, only much, much cooler.
Just go here to access the app (compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone) and select High Valyrian. You can start small, with five minutes sessions per day until you get the hang of it. All the lessons are free.
