LG announced it signed a new partnership with Swedish manufacturer Assa Abloy Entrance Systems, to develop automatic sliding doors made out of transparent OLED displays. Shops and businesses are targeted by this latest alliance, as the doors will supposedly be able to greet customers, communicate with employees, or show ads.
For some time now LG has been playing around with a range of transparent signage, just last year it posted this video about how it intends to use the technology.
In August this year, windows of subway carriages in Beijing and Shenzhen in China have been equipped with such signage. Also, both Panasonic and Xiaomi’s use LG panels in their transparent OLED TVs.
LG didn’t say when we’ll see the transparent OLED display doors in real life and the way the industry is moving, it won’t be very long.
Samsung also toyed with the idea of transparent OLED displays, but in 2016 the company scrapped all projects involving the technology.
