MacBook Pro Gets Upgrades, Keyboard Improved Too

Apple just launched new MacBook Pro models with improved specs on most fronts.

Both the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and the 15-inch model now have current-gen processors. The smaller Pro can be outfitted with quad-core i5 and i7 CPUs, while its bigger brother can go for six-core Intel Core i7 and i9 versions. On the RAM front, the 15-inch MacBook pro can be go up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM.

This can, of course, raise power consumption, so the battery is now bigger as well. Just like RAM was doubled so was the storage capacity, that goes from 1TB to 2TB for the 13-inch MacBook Pro and from 2TB to 4TB for the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

The butterfly keyboard that caused so many issues has also received improvements but, unfortunately, not on the dust-resistance front. The third-gen butterfly keyboard is quieter.

Another important upgrade is for the embedded ARM chip controlling the Touch Bar, Touch ID and Siri. The new ARM that’s also found in the iMac Pro, the T2, now lets you activate Apple’s voice assistant by simply saying “Hey Siri.”

What didn’t change? Surprisingly, the price. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starts at $1799, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar goes for a minimum of $2399.
